"A weekend in Santo
Domingo..." This weekend we had the opportunity to take a
trip to Santo Domingo. Santo Domingo is very different from Santiago.
It is much more of a tourist city, much larger, cleaner, and right by the
ocean.
We took tours of the city, ate in a variety of different
restaurants, and went shopping...or bartering with incessant store/shop
owners doing anything they could to get your attention and buy something. |
| We stayed at a hostel owned by
an American...this a photo of where we stayed overlooking the road. |
| This guy was doing tricks on his
bike on our way back from dinner the first night...I tried to get some good
photos...but this is the best one I could get. |
| Jes trying to stay cool with a
fan...I think. |
| The next day we took a tour of
Santo Domingo...this is part of Christopher Columbus' brother's (Diego)
home. |
| And from the inside looking out. |
| A street during our tour. |
| A sun dial that still works. |
| A musulo (not sure if I spelled
that right...so a little help please) |
| These windows were a gift from
Adolf Hitler to the Dominican Republic dictator Trujillo in the musulo.
They are crosses...but if you look closely at the connections of the
crosses...they are actually swastikas...scarey huh? |
| A painting on the ceiling. |
| A tomb in the musulo. |
| El Papa. |

| Now I was really just trying to
take a photo of the stone fence...but going through the photos I noticed the
bird in mid-flight to the right of the photo. |
| Flying buttresses inside the
cathedral. |
| A bell tower. |
| Dominic and Jason bartering. |
| This boy was playing stick ball
with his dad. |
| The ocean. |
| An old fort. |
| A girl on top of the tower
posing for pictures for her friends...so I thought I would include myself
and oblige myself to a photo as well. |
| Looking down on Joe and Jenny. |

| Joe and Jenny. |
| Two boats. |
| A staircase inside the fort. |
